Katie
Katie was a 7th grader who didn't enjoy Latin. She felt like every class was simply about memorizing and repeating what the teacher said. As a result Katie felt totally disconnected and disinterested. Mr. Williams started working with Katie in October and while she never completely connected with Latin, it got so much better. In her 1 hour weekly session with Mr. Williams, she learned all of her Latin for the next week and actually enjoyed learning. As a result, she was much more confident and much less anxious in her actual Latin class.
Ethan
Ethan struggled with translation. He knew what each word meant as he read, but he got so overwhelmed by the number of the words in each sentence. By the time he got to the end of the sentence he was confused and couldn't even remember the words he had just read. Mr. Williams worked with Ethan on strategies to reduce the amount that he had to hold in his brain at once. Ethan went from spending 1.5 hours a night on his homework and getting a C to spending 35 minutes and getting a B+.
Paula
Paula was in AP Latin and understood most of the grammar in Caesar and the Aeneid, but was completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of new vocabulary words she encountered every night. In class she could translate, but at home the texts seemed impossible. Mr. Williams worked with Paula around strategies for vocabulary acquisition, her grade improved, and her anxiety diminished.

Mr. Williams is simply a great teacher (and a pretty cool guy). He is extremely enthusiastic about teaching Latin and also is very respectful. He is truly honest and caring, always interested in how I was feeling. I really learned a lot from him and came to really enjoy (and become good at) Latin. I will really miss him.

Mr. Williams, it was a joy to be your student this year. You have a remarkable ability to both invigorate Latin while also making it a less daunting prospect. Thanks for all your help!
